Summer Course on Research Positioning
Tuesday, July 21, 2026, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Qualcomm Institute, 3195 Voigt Drive, La Jolla. This is a session of a recurring program that runs Tuesdays June 30 through September 1, 2026.
The program helps UC San Diego, Sanford Consortium, and Salk Institute students and postdocs understand research positioning, translation, and innovation. Seminars, case studies, workshops, and team projects cover lab goals, societal impact, and alignment with funding agencies like NSF, NIH, DOE, and DOD.
Participants gain skills to define research initiatives that tackle major scientific challenges through multidisciplinary integration. The course also introduces company formation, intellectual property transfer, customer discovery, business models, and financing. Alumni may identify translational opportunities and potential paths to startup ventures.
Instructor Yves Theriault serves as Program Manager for Education and Outreach and Chief Catalyst for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at UC San Diego鈥檚 Qualcomm Institute.
