Craftivism Happy Hour: Mexican Tin Art
The San Diego History Center hosts a Craftivism Happy Hour on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mujeres Brew House, 1983 Julian Avenue, San Diego 92113. Guests make their own piece of Mexican tin art, known as hojalata. The event is free and needs no registration.
What to Expect
Hojalata is a folk art tradition that dates to the 16th century and remains active in Mexican communities, including Oaxaca and San Miguel de Allende. For Hispanic Heritage Month, staff also share historical materials and stories about the border region. All skill levels are welcome.
About Craftivism
Craftivism repurposes traditional crafts such as sewing, quilting, and embroidery as tools for storytelling and community engagement. The History Center runs the programs to connect residents with local history.
The evening pairs a hands-on craft with regional history at a brewery in the Logan Heights area of San Diego.
