Music & Masters

The Timken Museum of Art hosts Music & Masters on August 23, 2026, a chamber music program in the James A. Lester Gallery at Balboa Park in San Diego. Violinist Nuvi Mehta and pianist Jessie Chang perform from 4:00 to 6:30 pm. Tickets are available through the Timken, with priority seating reserved for members.

The Program

The evening is titled The Past is Prologue: Our Changing Discourse Observed through Musical Preludes. Mehta and Chang trace musical preludes from Bach to Auerbach, with Mehta weaving commentary and historical context through the performance rather than splitting the night into a separate lecture and recital. Mehta is the artistic director of the Ventura Music Festival.

The program opens with a wine and charcuterie reception from 4:00 to 4:30 pm. The illustrated talk and performance runs from 4:30 to 5:15 pm, followed by a dessert intermission until 5:30 pm. The second half runs from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Seating is assigned.
